Physical Education

Writing the final PE newsletter article for the term always comes as a surprise for two reasons. Firstly, how quickly the term has flown by. Secondly, how much we’ve done as a school around sport and keeping ourselves fit and active.

This term we’ve had a new group of energetic and enthusiastic Preps come to our school who I quickly learnt, really love sport and moving. We’ve focused on fundamental movement skills such as running and jumping with a mix of hand-eye coordination using equipment. We’ve done a couple of obstacle courses and a decent amount of dancing in there to work on movement and rhythm.

Year 1 have been as wonderful as ever with their dancing and never fail to impress and humour me with their mix of hip hop, interpretive and bum-shuffling! We’ve focused on indoor hockey for the term and it’s been really great. It’s not an easy sport to learn as you’re not only getting used to the stick and movement on the court, you also have to be fair player who follows the rules of the game.  Well done 1C, you’ve been wonderful!

The rest of the school have been swept up in Lacrosse fever! I had no idea how much we’d love this crazy game and how good we would become at it. I’ve loved the enthusiasm and competitiveness (friendly, of course) that all classes have adopted during this unit, it really has been fun!

Finally, post Cross Country we have our LPS Running Club happening two mornings a week. This is a massive highlight of the year for me as I never get sick of watching the cars roll up and the kids fall out ready to run and run and run. The turnout has been amazing and the effort put in by each and every participant has been very impressive. This will continue until the Hanging Rock cross country has been run in week 3 of next term.

The Colour Run is coming up this Friday, I can’t wait!! Thank you to all those who have taken up the fundraising challenge, every little bit counts!

Thanks for a great term,

Meagan
