Year 11 Formal

Last Friday evening, the Year 11 formal was held at Boucher Hall. It was the largest group of participants so far with 106 students being presented to over 330 guests.  The group had learnt three dances, and they all had a special dance with a special person. A fantastic night was had by all.

The GAT

On Tuesday 17th June, the GAT was held for 187 students and sat in 2 parts.

What is the GAT (General Achievement Test) you might ask?  The GAT assesses skills in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Arts and Humanities.  Sitting the GAT is an opportunity to demonstrate your literacy and numeracy skills.  GAT results are important for checking if school-based assessments have been accurately and fairly assessed and can be used if you have a Derived Examination Score approved.

Between Section A and B of the GAT, students relaxed with a movie, games, footy and a hot pie.

Well Done!

Bairnsdale Secondary College boys won the Clontarf Academies VIC Basketball tournament last week and went through undefeated.

GELLEN Careers Expo

Over 200 Year 9 and 10 students attended the Gippsland East Local Learning and Employment Network (GELLEN) Careers Expo, held at the Bairnsdale Squash and Table Tennis Centre.  The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect with local businesses, training providers, and industry representatives, helping them explore a wide range of career and education pathways.

A special shout-out to our VCE-Vocational Major students—Emily, Mia, Yzabella, Kaylah, and Emma—who did a fantastic job as volunteer helpers on the day

Year 11 Business Management

On Monday 23rd June, the Year 11 Business Management classes went to Peter Dullard Ford, to meet with Ben to discuss internal and external considerations such as employees, customers and global considerations he has in the business. We also learnt about the legal and financial considerations that the business has to consider such as new laws.

Thankyou to Ben and Peter Dullard Ford for taking your time out to support our learning with a practical real-life example.

East Gippsland Duo Dance Their Way to State Glory

We’re thrilled to congratulate Cody from Bairnsdale Secondary College and Deborah from Nagle College on their incredible clean sweep at the Victorian Rock and Roll State Championships held in May!

Both dancers, under the expert guidance of coach Christabel Peters, took out 1st place in every category they entered:

🏆Youth Advanced

🏆Teen No Lifts

🏆Youth Lifts

🏆Youth State Title (2-song event)

For Cody, this marks a phenomenal debut. A newcomer to Rock and Roll, his rapid rise to the top has earned him the title of the best male Rocker under 18 in Victoria.

Deborah, is a seasoned champion, claiming her third win on the perpetual shield (2017, 2023, 2025)—a record achievement! She now finishes her Youth competition years on the highest of highs.

The duo dazzled over 200 audience members with sharp choreography, high-energy styling, and authentic 1950s flair. Their routines featured spectacular aerials such as the candlestick, Cossack, Texas Tommy, and seagulls, as well as crowd-pleasers like the classic Elvis Legs. The State Title was especially thrilling, performed to a live band with one slow and one lightning-fast song—both featuring lifts.

With charisma, skill, and rockin’ rhythm, Cody and Deborah have proudly brought the Rock and Roll State Titles home to East Gippsland.

Congratulations, Cody and Deborah—your achievements are nothing short of AMAZING!
