ENGLISH

The last few weeks of our English classes have seen 7M delving into poetry. Students have been learning about the use of sound and visual devices to add meaning, express feelings and ideas in poems. The first part of the unit focussed on building students’ confidence in oral presentations. It explored how the message of a poem can be delivered through the presenter’s use of gestures or varying the tone and volume of their voice. It culminated in students performing selected poems in front of their classmates. The upcoming lessons will focus on writing their own poems, based on topics that they are interested in.

7M have been developing techniques in drawing, including tone for texture, highlights and shadows and line for illusion. The inspiration artist they studied was Bridget Riley who specialises in Op Art. They have spent the last few weeks working with clay to develop skills in form and balance, and in painting to develop knowledge of colour and gradient. Some artists they explored have been Jean Miro, Salvador Dali and for clay work, ‘Monsters Inc.’. Their clay work and paintings are ‘works in progress’ but are coming along well.

HUMANITIES

Currently, 7M have time-travelled back to Ancient Egypt and are learning about pharaohs, pyramids, mummification and the Nile River in our history unit. A highlight was designing and constructing 3D pyramids.

In 7M, we learned to sort again,

with numbers, charts, and data then

we found the trends, both now and when,

classifying facts with clever pen.

From counts to groups, we understood,

in 7M, we worked for good.
