East Gippsland Music Festival Update
Information for the festival is up on Compass and requires parent/guardian approval. Students need to meet at Boucher Hall at the start of session 2 ready to start the day of rehearsals. Rehearsals will finish at 2.00 pm. Students need to bring lunch and snacks every day as there will be no time to go to the canteen. They will also need their instrument.
The ‘Gala’ Concert is on Thursday night. Students will need to be there by 6:15pm for a 7.00 pm start dressed in their very best, formal music uniform.
This is one of the big events on the music calendar which the students have been working hard towards all term. We are all looking forward to having a fantastic experience.
Speak Percussion
Bairnsdale Secondary College students have been invited to take part in a percussion workshop and performance with ‘Speak Percussion’. This has been arranged in conjunction with the Bairnsdale Art Gallery. This will take place on Thursday 31st July and Friday 1st August at school and the art gallery. There will be two rehearsals, one at school and one at the art gallery and a performance on the Friday evening.
About Speak percussion from their website:

We shape the sounds of 21st century Australian percussion music through the creation and presentation of ambitious arts projects. Internationally recognised as a leader in the fields of experimental and contemporary classical music, Speak redefines the potential of percussion. From solo concerts to massed sound events, interdisciplinary projects to sound installations, participatory work to album releases, our “breathtakingly impressive” (The West Australian) work is presented locally and globally in concert halls, theatres, galleries and site-specific locations. Speak Percussion has been responsible for 220+ commissions and premieres of new percussion works, contributing new 21st Century masterworks to the global percussion repertoire.

Interested students should see Kim Green before the end of term.
End of term reminders:
Students need to remember to take their instruments home over the holidays and do a little bit of playing. Soirees are coming up soon in Term 3 and good preparation will ensure fantastic results.
