On Wednesday 18th June, 50 of our Year 9 students attended a Careers Expo at the Bairnsdale Squash and Table Tennis Centre.
The students got to connect with local businesses, industries, and professional services in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare and other vocational pursuits.
The students had a great time and were gifted lots of goodie bags.
Year 9 students have been in the kitchen cooking up a storm all semester! This past week they made delicious American Burgers and national dish from Nigeria – Jollof rice.
Cooking classes are extremely useful with learning many life skills within the kitchen, and on the plus side, the students get to explore so many new foods.
Experimenting in Science!
Students got to go all out and experiment with fake wounds. They used red food dye, glue, tissues, glucose, water and cocoa powder to create this crazy looking wound.
Who doesn't love a cuddle from a furry friend? This week the students were lucky enough to meet this cute little lamb and give him lots of cuddles!
On the weekend Grace, Emily and Bonnie performed at the East Gippsland Performing Arts Eisteddfod, representing UrbanFunk Dance. This event happened across multiple days with our solos being on the first day which was a Thursday.
Emily and Grace did their duos on the Saturday. In the contemporary duo the music decided to skip a whole 2 counts of 8 but we kept going anyway and managed to place 3rd. Bonnie got an honourable mention in her Jazz Solo and then smashed out 1st place in her contemporary. Grace got 3rd in her Jazz Solo and 2nd in her contemporary. Emily got 1st in her Lyrical that made Bonnie cry and an honourable mention in her hip-hop and contemporary which were both in the harder section (open).
On Sunday we had our Troupe Dances. In the afternoon we performed the Teen Contemporary Routine placing 2nd. That Troupe was choreographed by Shawna. We then had 15 minutes between the afternoon section and evening section.
In the evening we performed Senior Contemporary first. We placed 2nd in that as well. Then we had to do teen hip-hop, and we got 2nd again. After that it was a quick change before Senior Jazz where we performed a Lady Gaga mashup dance which also placed us 2nd. We had to speed change again before doing Teen Jazz where we finally placed 1st. Emily and Bonnie then sprinted down and get changed before the Squid Game Theme, Senior Hip-Hop Dance. That dance also got 1st.

It is safe to say all the girls had a huge weekend and are extremely exhausted, but we are so proud of them and their efforts, it takes a lot of practice and hard work.
Congratulations to all our wonderful dancers who competed.
2026 Subject Selections
Time files when you're having fun! As we are halfway through Year 9, we are starting to think about our 2026 Subject Selections for Year 10. Students are to have their 2026 Subject Selections signed by a parent and returned to the Year 9 Hub by Friday 27th June. We ask you please do your best to have them signed and returned as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Semester 2, 2025 Classes
As we come to the end of our Semester 1, students will be getting ready for their new classes. Since it was some time ago when students selected their preferences for Semester 2, we are asking students to please check what classes they have and make sure they are ready to go ahead. If there are any issues, Subject Change Request forms are found at the Year 9 hub. We will do our best to accommodate all requests. All Subject Change Request forms must be submitted by the 25th July at the latest.
Exciting news! We have 4 locations locked in for our visit in Melbourne.
The students have the choice of attending ONE of the following locations:
Students vote for their preferred activity to attend through a Compass link. Students were shown how to do this at the Year 9 Assembly.
We cannot guarantee first preferences but will do our best to satisfy everyone.
We are still working on more details, once again. Stay tuned!
As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding term, it's a great time to reflect on all that Year 9 has accomplished this semester.
This term students have continued to grow in confidence, take on new responsibilities, and challenge themselves in both their learning and their relationships with others. Whether it was through classwork, co-curricular activities, or simply showing kindness and support to peers, Year 9 has continued to build a strong sense of community.
The efforts, attitudes and achievements this term are something to be celebrated.
Thank you to all families and staff for your ongoing support. We hope everyone enjoys a well-earned break at the end of next week and comes back refreshed and ready for the term ahead.
Wishing you all a safe and restful holiday.
