Year 5
Shakespeare Comes to Life in Year 5 OC!
This term, our Year 5 Opportunity Class students have stepped into the fascinating world of William Shakespeare and his stories. We have explored his life and times and enjoyed reading a selection of his famous comedies, dramas and tragedies. Students have even embraced the spirit of the Elizabethan era by making their very own quills!
Next week, we are excited to welcome 300 Opportunity Class students from Miranda, Sutherland, Caringbah North and Earlwood Public Schools, as well as students from Sydney Technical High School, for our annual Shakespeare Day. The day promises to be a wonderful celebration of Shakespeare, culminating in a special performance by the Bell Shakespeare Company.
Year 6
Science Incursion
This week, our Year 6 students participated in a Science incursion where they dived into exciting scientific explorations, including rocket aerodynamics, slime experiments, and electrical circuits. They were thrilled by a spectacular liquid nitrogen demonstration that sparked their curiosity.
As part of their “Physical World” science unit, students participated in a hands-on incursion focused on electricity and energy. They explored energy transformations through engaging demonstrations of light, sound, and heat energy, and had the opportunity to build their own electrical circuits and wind turbines.
Working in teams, students tackled fun challenges that encouraged problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork, inspiring them to design, test, and evaluate their own inventions while discovering the vital role of electricity in everyday life.
Year 6 Pyjama Day Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who helped raise funds for the Year 6 Farewell during our recent Pyjama Day on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026. Your participation and generous donations will make a real difference in supporting this important milestone for our Year 6 students.
The money raised will go towards reducing the costs of the Year 6 Farewell, ensuring all students can be part of this special event. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be used to purchase a gift for Hurstville Public School that will benefit current and future students.
We appreciate the enthusiasm from students and staff for dressing in their favourite pyjamas and embracing the cosy spirit of the day. Thank you for adhering to the footwear guidelines to keep everyone safe.
Together, we’ve made Pyjama Day a fun and meaningful success!
Book Week
Year 6 had a fantastic time celebrating Book Week at Hurstville Public School! Throughout the week, we explored our love of reading by participating in fun activities, sharing our favourite stories, and joining in the excitement of the Book Week Parade. It was wonderful to see so many creative costumes inspired by much-loved characters, and the enthusiasm from students was inspiring.
Book Week is a wonderful opportunity for our Year 6 students to foster a lifelong passion for reading, connect with their peers, and appreciate the importance of books in our lives. Thank you for supporting your child’s participation and creativity during Book Week.
We look forward to continuing our reading adventures together!
