Metropolitan South and Metropolitan South and West Public Speaking Competition

Over the past two weeks, our students have showcased their confidence, communication skills and speaking abilities through our Stage Public Speaking Competitions. Students represented their classes and demonstrated their skills by presenting a prepared persuasive speech, as well as responding to an impromptu speaking topic, where they had to think quickly and confidently on their feet.

It was wonderful to see students speak with such enthusiasm, expression and confidence in front of an audience. We are incredibly proud of all students who participated. Standing up in front of an audience and sharing your ideas takes courage, preparation and resilience, and every student should be congratulated on their effort and achievement.

The four successful students from each Stage will now have the exciting opportunity to represent our school at the Georges River Network Public Speaking Finals, where they will compete against students from other schools across the network.

Interschool Chess Tournament Semi-Finals

On the 18th of August five of our Hurstville Public School boys attended the Interschool Chess Tournament Semi-Finals at Marist College Kogarah.

The team consisted of Chase Li in 5C, Eric Chen in 6S, Jamie Li in 6L, Andrew Lu in 6L and Kai Zheng in 6L. They displayed amazing focus and strategy throughout the tournament receiving accolades for their achievements. For their individual performances Andrew Lu came 6th receiving a medal, Eric Chen came 4th receiving a trophy and Kai Zheng came 1st, also receiving a trophy.

I was proud of their support for each other as they played as a team to try make it through to the next round as only the top three schools out of seventeen, that were present, get to proceed to the finals. They played with determination and consistently dominated the semi-finals to win the trophy for first place.

Hurstville Public School wishes you luck and all the best during the finals on the 18th of September at the Sydney Academy of Chess in Burwood. Congratulations on an amazing achievement to all five team members.
