Dogs Connect

Archie, our much-loved wellbeing dog, continues to have a busy and rewarding role at Karoo Primary School. Archie supports students in a variety of ways, helping to build confidence, strengthen connections and promote emotional wellbeing across our school community.
One of the highlights this term has been watching our students confidently take Archie for walks during lunch and afternoon breaks. These opportunities allow students to develop responsibility, leadership and communication skills while enjoying the calming benefits of spending time with Archie.

Archie also spends his days working alongside students in small groups, visiting an increasing number of classrooms, checking in on staff during lunchtime in the staffroom, and even attending meetings as our four-legged wellbeing ambassador. Wherever he goes, Archie is greeted with smiles and enthusiasm, and his presence continues to make a positive impact on students and staff alike.
We are also thrilled to share some exciting news. Last week, the Dogs Connect Team was fortunate to receive a Bank First Teaching Initiatives Program (TIP) Grant to further expand Karoo Primary School's wellbeing dog program. This funding will allow us to create dedicated wellbeing spaces where Archie can work with even more students in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.

The expansion of our program will enable more students to benefit from Archie's presence, helping them regulate emotions, build positive relationships and engage more successfully in their learning. We look forward to sharing more updates as this exciting initiative develops.
We are incredibly proud of the positive difference Archie continues to make every day and can't wait to see what the future holds for our growing wellbeing dog program.
