STSS Student Learning Update
In STSS, students have continued to expand their understanding of Science, Technology, Sustainability and Stewardship. Below is a snapshot of some of the recent learning experiences students have participated in during STSS.
Foundation – Year 2
Our junior students have been exploring how different forces can make objects move. They have also been investigating how types of forces can affect movement, such as using push and pull forces in everyday situations. Students have also been learning about sustainability and how recycling, composting, and reusable products can reduce waste. This also involved investigating ways to repurpose common household items in meaningful ways such as using recycled materials to construct bird feeders and insect hotels.
Grade 3 – Grade 4
Middle years students have been exploring heat (thermal energy) and how it is produced and transferred. Through investigations, they investigated how friction creates heat and how heat moves through conduction from hotter to colder objects. Students have also developed their Digital Technologies skills by using Google Sheets to record scientific observations, learning how spreadsheets and dropdown lists can help organise and accurately record data.
Grade 5 – Grade 6
Our senior students have been developing their understanding of Physical Sciences by investigating light and shadows. They explored how light travels in straight lines, ways shadows are formed, and how different materials interact with light. Students strengthened their scientific investigation skills by planning fair tests, recording results, and drawing conclusions. In Digital Technologies, they have begun exploring text-based coding by designing algorithms to create digital drawings, modifying code, and evaluating how changes affect the final outcome.
Enjoy your weekend,
The STSS Team

Did You Know…From 15–23 August, schools across Australia will be celebrating National Science Week! The theme for National Science Week 2026 is “Seeds of Science: nurturing science for all”. Stay tuned to see how our STSS students explore this year’s theme through their Science and Technologies learning.
