This fortnight students in P-2 have been learning about the importance of technology in people’s lives and jobs. Students learnt about different types of maps and why we use maps. This involved completing a small scavenger hunt around the school. Each group had clues and a school map to help them. Students then designed their own map (treasure or school) that was easy to follow. The aim was to get someone safely get from point A to point B by providing good visual references and landmarks. This also linked beautifully with coding - following a sequence of steps to get to the X on the map.
In the 3-4 area students are learning about the importance of technology and its dramatic advancement over time, especially in people’s occupations. Students spent a week in the life of a creative designer, where they needed to create an online vision board using CANVA. These were a great way for students to use a digital platform to represent their passions and dreams. These turned out amazing.
In the 5-6 area students began to explore the impact of technological advancement over time. They linked this with how people create and design sustainable practices to meet community and local needs. This involved firstly building a school playground on a digital platform and then making a 3D model using classroom materials. Students quickly found out the endless possibilities using online technology. However, many would not be safe in a real, school-based setting.
It has been an exciting and busy few weeks in Auslan, with students developing an understanding of its importance as a language and primary form of communication for many members of the Deaf community. Through a range of engaging activities, students explored different ways of communicating without using their voices, helping them build empathy and an appreciation for the challenges and strengths of non-verbal communication.
Students have been enthusiastic about learning to sign and have eagerly practised their new skills in class. They have learned how to greet others, introduce themselves, use polite manners, express their feelings, and ask and answer simple questions. Students have also enjoyed participating in games, role-play activities, and learning songs in Auslan, which have helped reinforce their vocabulary, confidence, and fluency. It has been wonderful to see their excitement and willingness to communicate using this new language.

The LCS Athletics Day will be held on Wednesday, 12 August (please see the timetable below). Parents and family members are warmly invited to join us and cheer on our students throughout the day. Students are encouraged to wear their House colours and show their House spirit as they compete.
