Year 3/4 News 

Literacy

In Literacy, students have continued their poetry unit by exploring the structure and features of haiku poems. They have also been learning effective strategies for publishing a variety of poems as they work towards completing their poetry portfolios.

Last week, we were fortunate to participate in a Webex session with renowned author Andy Griffiths. Andy shared where he finds inspiration for his stories and gave students an insight into his creative writing process. He also highlighted the importance of reading, explaining how it nurtures creativity, sparks imagination, and helps us build connections with the world around us. It was an engaging and inspiring experience for everyone involved.

Numeracy 

In Mathematics, students have continued to explore a range of open-ended tasks designed to strengthen their problem-solving strategies, critical thinking skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with partners and small groups. They have also investigated the properties of different types of angles, including acute, obtuse, right, straight, and reflex angles. Students identified examples of these angles in everyday life and developed their understanding by using protractors to accurately measure and compare angles in degrees.

Inquiry Unit

This week, we were fortunate to welcome Will Kettle, who kindly visited our school to give a sheep (and alpaca!) shearing demonstration. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience an important aspect of farming that many of us would not otherwise have the chance to see firsthand.

During the demonstration, Will also introduced students to a range of shearing equipment and explained how the tools and techniques have evolved over time. His knowledge and enthusiasm provided valuable insight into the skill and precision involved in the shearing industry.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Will for generously sharing his time and expertise with us. We greatly appreciate the engaging and informative demonstration and the wonderful insight he gave our students into the world of shearing.
