CAREERS NEWS

Your Next Step Starts Now!

As we move further into Term 3, it’s time for Year 12 students to start turning their career ideas into real plans and actions. Whether your goal is university, TAFE, an apprenticeship, traineeship, employment, or further training, now is the time to make sure you understand your options.

🎓 Thinking About University?

If university is part of your plan, make sure you are researching your preferred courses and checking the prerequisite subjects, selection requirements and ATAR expectations. This is also a great time to attend university information sessions and Open Days, explore course guides and speak with Careers about your options.

Remember, your first preference does not have to be your only option. Consider having a range of courses and pathways that could lead you towards your career goal.

🛠️ Considering TAFE, VET, or an Apprenticeship?

University isn't the only pathway to a successful career. TAFE, VET courses, apprenticeships and traineeships can provide excellent opportunities to gain practical skills and industry experience.

If you're interested in a trade or vocational pathway, start researching entry requirements, application processes and apprenticeship opportunities now. Don't wait until the end of Year 12 to begin looking.

💼 Looking for Employment?

If employment is your preferred pathway, make sure your resume is up to date and start looking at job opportunities that align with your interests and skills. Consider casual or part-time work, school-leaver programs, traineeships and entry-level positions that could help you gain valuable experience.

✅ Your Careers Checklist This Week

  • Research at least one course, apprenticeship, or employment pathway you are interested in.
  • Check the entry requirements and application process.
  • Make sure you know your VTAC and/or direct application/ early entry options
  • Update your resume if you are looking for employment.
  • Book a Careers appointment if you are unsure about your next step.
  • Talk to your family about your plans and the options you are considering.

⭐ Remember...

You don't need to have your entire future figured out right now. What is important is that you are informed, exploring your options, and taking the next step.

If you are unsure about what comes after Year 12, come, and see the Careers Team in the Joseph Centre. We can help you explore your options, develop a pathway, and work out what steps you need to take next.  You can book an appointment with us here:
