Term 2 Overview

Term 2 Wrap Up - Student Leader Summaries

Year 7

As we are already half way through the year, our Year 7 cohort has nicely transitioned into secondary school, and we are grateful to all the teachers for helping us in this transition. The atmosphere of Bemin is calm and a perfect place to learn, and every day we enjoy coming to school. We have been lucky enough to participate in electives such as, Art, Digital Technology, Drama and Food Tech.

This semester we have taken part in many extra-curricular activities like Wyndham Tech. For the Wyndham Tech program, two year 7 classes went out of school to the Wyndham Tech School. Students explored many technological fields like drones and VR, which was an eye opening and fascinating experience which all of us enjoyed immensely. We also participated in the buddy program which was a great way to help year 7s feel more comfortable at Bemin Secondary College.

Coming up, we can all look forward to the upcoming Athletics carnival, which promises to be a fun and engaging experience for all of us, enabling students across all year levels to compete in a positive environment. Also on the start of term 3 us year 7s will go on an excursion to Lake Dewar and we can’t wait.

Year 8

As we reach the halfway point of Year 8, we would like to congratulate all students on a busy and successful semester. The transition into Year 8 brought new challenges, including increased workloads, assessment tasks and higher expectations, and it has been fantastic to see students rise to the occasion and continue to grow as learners.

Throughout the semester, Year 8 students have embraced a wide range of opportunities. From entering the Principal's Writing Competition to creating impressive projects in Woodwork and Visual Arts, students have showcased their creativity, talents and dedication. Many students have also represented the college through Cross Country, interschool sport trials and matches, demonstrating excellence, teamwork and school pride.

We would like to thank all teachers and staff for their ongoing support and guidance throughout the semester. In particular, we acknowledge Mrs Reddy for her dedication and leadership this term.

As we look ahead to Semester 2, we are excited for opportunities such as Athletics Day, exploring Music and Performing Arts, and showing our pride through our new house colours. We look forward to continuing to build a positive, inclusive and supportive Year 8 community where everyone feels valued, respected and connected.

Year 9

Term 2 has been an eventful and busy term for Year 9 students, filled with opportunities, events, and excursions that challenged us and helped us develop new skills.

Throughout the term, students have participated in a wide variety of activities both inside and outside the classroom. From the buddy program, which helped strengthen connections across year levels, to interschool sports including rugby, soccer and basketball, students demonstrated teamwork, resilience and school spirit. We also had the opportunity to participate in rugby taster sessions and attend an inspiring author workshop with Maxine Beneba Clarke, where students discussed valuable insights into the writing process and storytelling.

Year 9 students also took part in environmental excursions, exploring important issues such as the impact of fast fashion and the role of emerging technologies in our world. Alongside these experiences, many students showcase their creativity and communication skills through the writing competition. As the term came to an end, students worked hard to prepare for and complete their exams, demonstrating persistence and commitment to their learning. Career exploration activities such as the Morrisby program were introduced to encourage students to begin thinking about future pathways and opportunities.

As we look ahead to Term 3, we are excited to continue exploring future careers and pathways. We are also looking forward to participating in the Australian Mathematics Competition and Athletics Day, which will provide more opportunities for students to challenge themselves, get involved and represent our school.

We wish students and staff a safe and enjoyable, and well deserve holiday break and look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday 14th July for another exciting term.

Student Engagement

Student Voice Committee

This year marks the first time Bemin has introduced a Student Voice Committee. Our aim is to create a positive, inclusive and open-minded community where all students feel heard, respected and valued. To better understand how students feel about their school experience, we recently conducted a survey on student connectedness and collected feedback from students across the school. The survey gave us valuable ideas and insights that will help us make positive changes. Using this feedback, we are looking at ways to help students feel more connected, included and represented. We are also planning events and activities for future terms that will encourage participation, celebrate our school and bring students together. We look forward to continuing to listen to student voices and helping make Bemin a place where students feel like they belong.

Year 7 & 9 Buddy Program

On May 19 and May 29, our Year 7 and Year 9 students came together to participate in the Bemin Secondary College Buddy Program. This student-led initiative was spearheaded by our dedicated Student Leaders and the Year 9 members of the Student Voice Committee. Our primary goal was to foster a deeper sense of belonging, ensuring that every student feels genuinely connected, safe, and supported within the Bemin Secondary College community. Transitioning into and navigating secondary school can be challenging, and we wanted to create a visible, reliable network of peer support across different year levels. During these sessions, the Year 7 and Year 9 students engaged in collaborative team-building activities and interactive group work. These activities helped our students have a better understanding and connection to our school, and helped our year students have confidence to ask for help from teachers or students.

Year 9 Events

Exams & Morrisby

Year 9s also began their Morrisby Profiling Assessment this week. Morrisby is an exciting careers and pathways program that helps students understand their strengths, interests and potential future opportunities. Morrisby uses a range of questions to provide a personalised report on each student's abilities and preferences. Looking into Semester 2, Year 9 students will participate in a one-on-one meeting with a Morrisby careers consultant who will guide them through their results. We look forward to seeing our students gaining valuable insights as they begin exploring their future pathways as they transition to the senior Campus

Well done Year 9s, you've had a busy term!

Upcoming- Lake Dewar Camp (Year 7)

We are excited for our Year 7 students to attend Lake Dewar Camp on Thursday 16 July, early in Term 3. Throughout the one-day event, students will participate in a range of exciting outdoor adventure activities designed to build teamwork, resilience, confidence and new friendships, while creating lasting memories with their peers.
