Principal's Report

Term 2

Every time I reach the end of a term I am always overwhelmed by the level of opportunity and activity that is available across the College for all students. As I read through the newsletter I am struck by the positive effort and contribution of both students and staff throughout the term to build school culture and community spirit. Earlier in the term our House program was relaunched with our students. Lunchtime activities have involved House and individual competitions and activities just to enjoy. It was a joy to attend the Year 12 Formal and see the same students who enjoyed the Year 10 Formal in 2024 conduct themselves with even more maturity in 2026. It was an honour to be part of the celebrations.

I am proud of both the academic, and sporting achievements of our students. As you take the time to read and view the teaching and learning section of the newsletter I ask you to really notice the learning that is occurring for so many of our students across all our subject areas and across all year levels. At our May School Council Meeting we were able to view our 2025 Annual Report. The growth of the College was reflected in our successes and our challenges. You can view the Annual Report on our website: https://www.beminsc.vic.edu.au/

Stage 2 Build Update 2026

Currently, the Stage 2 build across both campuses is to schedule. VSBA and Hutchinsons Builders meet regular with myself and the Department of Education to update us all on progress. As you can see from the above title photograph the buildings on Morris road are now fully covered. This is fantastic as the builders can continue to work through the winter months on fitting out the internal structures. At the Junior campus the oval is glowing it is so green. However, as part of the process of the grass taking hold it will die off a little before returning to it's current state. At this point in time the oval will be ready for late this year or early next year. Up next at the Junior campus will be the pouring of the concrete to prepare for further outdoor courts and extra outdoor seating.

Enrolment Numbers 2027 & Staffing Update

We currently have 1474 students enrolled across the campus. Our estimates for 2027 are suggesting that the College will increase to about 1700 students across both sites. Recruitment has begun for next year. Meanwhile we actively continue to staff the school - replacing staff who are going on family leave or those on short contracts or who have been promoted.

We welcome the following staff who have begun with us after the start of the term or next term:

Leading Teacher - Junior school (Year 8) - Jasmine Almatrah (Humanities, Wellbeing)

Humanities/Business Teacher  - Chetna Chetna

Humanities/Business Teacher  - Kian Wu

Mathematics 8-12 Teacher- Oojong Jung

English/VM Literacy Teacher - Sofia Kaur

English/Humanities Teacher  - Shalini Prasad

Finally,

I do wish to mention that the College conducted it's first VCAA General Achievement Test and it's first Year 9 exams.  For both our senior and Year 9 students the experience was a first. All students conducted themselves in a mature manner and demonstrated an understanding of the importance of trying to do their best. The success of the GAT and all the exams was one example of the way our staff and students have worked together to achieve a College milestone. Next semester there will be more to come!
