FREE Internet Initiative
The ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) have partnered with the NBN to use public libraries to help families connect with the School Student Broadband Initiative – SSBI as the government has opened it up for families to refer themselves until the end of 2024, rather than needing to be referred.
What is it?
- The School Students Broadband Initiative is FREE internet for any household that has a school aged student in it until the end of December 2025.
Who is Eligible?
- You must be caring for a school aged student.
- You must be in an area that can have NBN connected to it.
- You must NOT Have had an NBN connection for 14 days.
How do they connect? (Customers can do this themselves, or we can do it with them)
- Call the national Referral Centre: 1800 954 610
- The Referral Centre will ask questions to confirm their eligibility (This is entirely on trust; they won’t double check anything other than if they can get NBN)
- The NRC will send them a voucher, via email, SMS, or mail if they prefer.
- The NRC will then call a service provider with customer on the phone and do a ‘warm transfer’ with the customer. This means they will talk the service provider through the fact that this is an SSBI customer, here is the voucher number.
- The Service Provider will take over the call and connect the person to Internet FREE of charge as per their normal connection process.
- Entire process takes about 20minutes max.
