Year 10 Student Leaders Update

The last things that we've done have been the Gratitude Wall. The Gratitude Wall was to decorate the space a little bit more and to give a sense of joy and happiness when they walk through the building. We have also created a Google Form for Teacher of the Month which we are planning to launch in mentor class very soon! We have also been starting to work with the Year 9 leaders to share the duty of Breakfast Fast together! We each work with a Year 9 leader to link the two year levels together more strongly and to build up confidence in the Year 9s to work with Year 10s.

Thanks,

Josh L

Year 10 Curriculum Update

Recently, a small group of students were invited to a session to discuss the possibility of launching a Psychology Unit in Term 4. Students met with Scott Alldis (Year 10 LCL) and Mel Dick (Year 9 and 10 AP) across two sessions. In the first session, they discussed their interests and how they could be linked back to Psychology and Science within the curriculum. In the second session, they completed an activity involving “SQUID” thinking where they asked questions relating to Psychology and our body systems and answered them until they couldn’t find answers anymore. These questions will form the basis of our unit. Thank you to all participating students!

Well done 10B for leading, and 10A for rocketing up the standings at this point. Who will lead at the end of Term 3?!

Student of the Month

Each month a student from Year 10 receives the Student of the Month Award. This is based on how the student has met our school values of Kindness, Persistence, Collaboration, and Growth. The student is presented with a certificate and canteen voucher for their efforts.

Our Student of July was officially Mohammad Husseini! Congratulations to him on his achievement. Our Student of August will be announced at an assembly in the very near future!

VCE

VCE Student Leaders Update

We have recently had a team building and communication session that was run by myself and the other VCE house captains. We then had our House Olympics that were also run by the VCE house leaders. We had various events ranging from Maths and science to art and cooking and we recently had trivia. It was an event between all the houses and all the kids were involved in what we were running. It was great to see all the houses come together and be competitive.

We also have an upcoming free dress day that will be led by Blue house. The free dress day will be on the 13th of September. A gold coin will be needed and the money will go to the Royal Children's Hospital.

In the VCE space all the year 12s are getting excited for the end of year and are getting prepared for the year 12 events such as; formal, muck-up day and the graduation celebrations.

Exams are fast approaching and final preparations are starting for revision.

We ask all students and teachers to be considerate of the year 12s during this highly stressful time.

Thanks,

Anton Webber, Emma-Lea Nunn, Mikaela Apps

Curriculum Update

Year 11 and 12 students are fast approaching the end of their areas of study and getting ready to enter their exam periods. For year 12’s there are only two weeks left of classes before our revision period begins. We have had the Corio Library in to talk about the services and resources that they have available to all of our students.

Homework Club

We have seen an increase in out attendance of Homework club with students eager to get work done outside of school hours. Monday, Tuesday & Thursday from 3:30 until 4:30 the VCE community runs, homework club. With rotating staff, there is always someone with a different area of expertise to help out with your studies, allowing students to complete an extra hour of work or revision before going home from school.

Achievements

VCE Student of the Month

In the VCE space a focus has been placed on our school values of collaboration and growth. Our student of the month goes to a student who has shown growth consistently in all of their classes, always willing to lend a helping hand and work with others. Someone who has consistently demonstrated great academic and personal growth this year.

Congratulations to Farzana Mohammad Aref!

VM/VPC

From the Students

VM 12 Literacy Inquiry Social Issues Project In Literacy Inquiry Aiden Sherlock and myself have been working on our project about poverty. Our group is called ‘Meal Makers’. We are cooking foods such as vegetable loaded Bolognese and M&M Cookies. We will be donating the food to The Salvation Army. We have chosen this project because we both like to cook and both found interest in learning about the topic of homelessness and poverty. So far we have promoted our project by sticking up posters around the school, and making the M&M cookie dough ready for next Thursday, which is our cooking date.

Thanks,

Noah Whillance

Curriculum Program Report

As the students head into the last few weeks of the term, the pressure on our year 12s mounts. We look forward to seeing the year 12 cohorts social issues projects come to life in the last few weeks of the term. This includes the showcase of their work on Tuesday of week 10. Before they wrap up their year with their final reflections and portfolio showcase.

In addition the year 11 cohort continues working hard on their community projects, preparing themselves to run activities at Coasthaven Community Centre with the residence in the aged care facility. While others are working hard to get the NBC Bike Maintenance work shop up and running as another social enterprise. Look out for the grand opening coming soon.

Co-Curricular Activities

During week 8 the VPC students had a great time experiencing what the Port of Geelong excursion had to offer. Within this they discovered the vast array of job opportunities that are available in their backyard.

Continuing the theme of job opportunities our VM 11 students look forward to being hosted by GRLLEN for the Building Careers site tour in week 10. Students will get to explore the large variety of career pathways within the Building Industry, getting their hands dirty and networking with potential employers.

VM/VPC Students of the Month

Within the VM and VPC community, the Student of the Month is some one who has upheld the school wide positive behaviours not only within our school but also within their VET or SBAT and the wider community.

Our July Students of the Month went to Sher Nay Kaw for his efforts within our community, volunteering hours at the Bunnings BBQ or during recess and lunch. Stepping up as a leader and role model within the classroom and to the junior students. All while pursuing and discovering other interest areas.

For the month of August we awarded the prize to August Po for her quiet achievements. Volunteering hours to the VM & VPC community. While also blossoming in her SBAT. She has also demonstrated great leadership within the classroom and is a great role model with an infectious smile and kind heart.
