IMPACT

Year 7/8

In preparation for our next project, the Year 7/8 students attend the Geelong Art Gallery and the Geelong Wool Museum to explore sculpture work further. The Geelong Art Gallery exhibition, was the winners of the Makers Award. Students studied the pieces in the exhibition, the stories behind them and identified what they liked about them and the materials used to make these sculptures. Students then had to use paper to create their own sculptures in different ways. We then followed this trip up with a visit to the Wool Muesum where students saw life size sculptures of different animals skeletons - all made out of wool. The using clay students had to create sculptures of Australian animals. All of this was in preparation of our IMPACT display which will be in the Geelong Library for the month of October.

Year 9

Each Year our Year 9 IMPACT students put on a puppet show for our Northern Bay College Kindergarten students. This is always an exciting day for them and our Year 9's are busily making their puppets based on the book 'Brown Bear Bown Bear' by Bill Martin Jr. They will be performing this show in Children's Week early next term.

With this terms focus being on puppetry, our Year 9 IMPACT students attended a workshop at Art Centre Melbourne with a real life puppeteer. Students learnt about how to make themselves become one with a puppet, and how their movements can help make the puppets come alive. They learnt how the sounds they make and the way they move their bodies is what will help to make their puppets come alive. They then went on to learn how to make life size puppets and how to control the bodies, heads and limbs of the puppet, to make the puppets become alive so that the audience forget about the puppeteers and only see the puppet. This excursion was the beginning of the preparation for the Year 9's work with the Northern Bay Kinder students.

Year 10

Learning where our passions can take us is important in IMPACT, and our year 10 students learnt exactly this with ex-student and Alumni Sharlene. Sharlene runs her own photography business and talked to our students about where her photography has taken her.

The highlight of this term for our Year 10 IMPACT camp has been the Arts Camp. Over 3 days the Year 10 Impact students travelled to Melbourne to explore everything the Arts capital of Australia has to offers. Our first day say us going to Artvo - a 3D Art gallery, a Hip Hop Writing workshop where the students learnt the skills to song writing by world renowned British Hip Hop artist Nafe. The night time saw us being in the live audience of Chanel 10's The Project while finishing off at an escape room. The second day we attend a podcasting workshop and created our own Banksy art piece at the Banksy exhibition. The very popular Six the Musical was our night time event which was a huge hit and loved by all. Our third day was spent at Metartworld - an art gallery filled with statues and large sculptures made out of metal objects and pieces, which were amazing! Our Year 10's had a amazing camp exploring many new skills.

State School Spectacular

After 6 months of rehearsals, 40 Northern Bay students from Year 4-12 participated in the 2024 Victorian State School Spectacular in front of an audience of 10,000 people at John Cain Arena. In our 12th year, our students were part of the Mass Choir and Mass Dance who participated in 2 big days of rehearsals, finishing with two amazing performances on the Saturday. What makes the VSSS so special is that there are no school competing against each other, rather they are al joining together to put on a three hour full production with more lights than a concert at Rod Laver! Congratulations all our participating students and staff, they are all SPECTACULAR!

Extended School Day

Do you know that Northern Bay College have extended their school day 3 days per week, for students in Year 3-10?

7 years ago we made the decision to extend our day till 4:45 pm and to give our students the opportunity to attend another hour of schooling, from 3:30 - 4:45.

A bus is provided to bring students across to Goldsworthy Campus and students have the opportunity to sign up to a program  around something they are passionate about. This has been a highly successful program with thousands of students having gone through the program, learning and enjoying many new skills. It has also proved to be an excellent trainsion for our students between the Junior and Senior campus. And the best part is, for our students who attend each week, this program is totally FREE.

This program is open to everyone from Year 3 and everyone is welcome (please note this is not after school care but an extension of our school day).

Our Term 3 program has now come to an end and was once again another successful term. With over 300 students attending over the three days, each week it was wonderful to see so many students enjoying and learning new skills, making new friends and our school working together as one college.

Our Term 4 program will run for 5 weeks and will commence in week 4. If you would like more information take the time to look through the website:
