Free Dry Water Safety Workshops – A Message from the City of Casey
Casey Leisure is proud to offer FREE Dry Water Safety Workshops this spring, as part of our ongoing commitment to community safety and inclusion. These workshops are designed to support residents, especially adult beginners and those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds — in building essential water safety knowledge before entering the water.
We know that many adults in our community haven’t had the chance to learn these skills, and we want to ensure everyone feels confident and safe around pools, beaches, and waterways.
Why Water Safety Matters
Last summer’s National Drowning Report revealed an increase in drowning incidents across Australia — many involving adults who lacked basic water safety knowledge and found themselves unprepared in emergency situations.
These workshops are all about prevention and empowerment. By learning the basics of water safety in a safe, dry, and supportive environment, participants will gain the tools they need to stay safe — and help keep others safe — in and around water.
Workshop Overview – What You’ll Learn:
• Basic CPR & DRSABCD emergency response
• Watch Around Water – keeping yourself and children safe
• Risks associated with different waterways (pools, rivers, beaches)
• Safe reach and throw rescues you can perform without entering the water
