Principal's Report

End of Term 3

Today, I can announce that we have two teachers who are finalists in the Victorian Education Excellence Awards to be held in October. Tayla Marshall for the category of Most Outstanding Early Career Teacher -Secondary and Teagan Spence Most Outstanding Secondary Teacher. Both exceptional educators work tirelessly to support students to achieve their potential. We wish them both every success at the Award Night and congratulate them on being recognised by their colleagues for their outstanding work.

As we reach the end of this short, busy, and productive term, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a vibrant and rewarding few weeks at our college.

The term began with our annual Multicultural Assembly and Evening Showcase followed by the 4C’s celebration, both of which highlighted the richness of our diverse school community. It was wonderful to see so many parents and families attending, sharing in the performances, and celebrating our values of Respect, Learning and Working Together.

We also trialled a new format for Student Learning Conferences, with students leading the discussions and presenting their portfolios. This shift has been met with overwhelmingly positive feedback, and we are pleased to report parental engagement reached over 70%, a fantastic result that reflects the strong partnership between school and home.

Our writing extension students had the privilege of working closely with our Author in Residence, resident author Coral Vass and many of them are now in the final stages of preparing their contributions for Book in a Day. This experience has further strengthened the love of writing and creativity within our classrooms.

Engagement with our feeder primary schools continues as we prepare for the 2026 Year 7 intake. Once again, we are experiencing strong enrolments, a reflection of the confidence families have in our college and the quality of learning opportunities we provide.

Sport has also been a highlight this term. Our House Athletics Carnival was held at Casey Fields last Friday. Under cool but sunny skies, students competed fiercely across all events, showing great spirit and determination. Congratulations to all competitors, and in particular to Mabo House, who were crowned the 2025 House Athletics Champions.

1st Mabo - 500 points

2nd Hollows - 400 points

3rd Freeman - 300 points

4th Walton - 200 points

In addition, the District Athletics recently took place. Congratulations to all students who represented our college, and a special mention to those students who achieved a place in the competition. Congratulations to the following students who have been invited to compete at the Regional Athletics carnival

Dasman Vagai Salesulu - Javelin, Dicus, Shotput

Mustafa Sultani - 1500m

Zechariah Tamala - High Jump

Ethan Neath - Shot Put

Shaban Jafari - 800m

For our senior students, this term has included some special moments. The Senior Formal at The Grand in Mulgrave was an evening of style and celebration, with staff and students alike looking both beautiful and handsome. More recently, our Year 12 students gathered for an evening of fun and relaxation, enjoying bubble soccer, pizza, and a movie as part of their end-of-year celebration. A big thank you to the staff who made both events possible, ensuring memorable experiences for our students.

As we look ahead, our Year 12 students are now entering the final and most important stage of their schooling. With revision, practice exam and the final exams just around the corner, I encourage them to remain focused, make the most of the support available, and finish strongly.

Thank you to the parents and carers who recently took time to provide feedback by completing the annual Parent and Carer Survey. Once this is fully available, we will analyse the results to consider opportunities for further improvement.

On the facilities front, I am pleased to share recently, we purchased $30,000 of new furniture for students. This included new tables and study carrels in CRC; new tables and study carrels in Senior Study Space; new couches and whiteboard tables for Mabo Foyer area and new couches and whiteboard tables for E Block. I am also excited to announce that work has finally commenced on the construction of our new maintenance shed. Once completed and the current shed will be is removed and this will provide additional open space for our students to enjoy during recess and lunchtime.

Thank you to all staff, students, and families for your hard work and commitment throughout this term. I wish everyone a safe and restful break, and I look forward to another successful term ahead.
