Year 2

Literacy:
Students have been enjoying reading The Shop Train together as a class. As part of our literacy learning, we have been exploring the four types of sentences: statements, questions, commands and exclamations.
Students have been learning how to identify each sentence type and recognise the different purposes they serve. They have also been practising how to change sentences into each of these types, helping them understand how punctuation and wording can change the meaning and tone of a sentence. It has been wonderful to see students experimenting with language and building confidence in their writing.
Maths:
In Mathematics, students have been developing a range of addition strategies to help them solve problems more efficiently. These strategies include breaking apart numbers, using number lines and bridging to 10 to make calculations easier. Students have been practising these strategies during our maths sessions and building confidence when explaining their thinking.
We have also been learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour. Students enjoyed making their own clocks and have been practising reading both analogue and digital clocks.
In our geometry learning, students have been exploring 3D shapes. They have been identifying different shapes and learning about their features, including the number of faces, edges and vertices (corners). Students have also been practising drawing these shapes and discussing the characteristics that make each one unique.
Science: Gravity
In Science, students have been exploring gravity and learning how it is a force that pulls objects towards the Earth. Through class discussions and hands-on investigations, students discovered how gravity affects the way objects move.
As part of our learning, students experimented with objects moving down ramps to observe how gravity influences motion. They worked like real scientists by conducting fair tests, carefully observing what happened and recording their findings.
Students then shared their observations and explained how gravity helped objects move. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity and growing understanding as they explore how forces work in the world around them.
