Our Learning and Celebrations
Literacy
In Literacy, students have been learning about the structure of persuasive writing and practising how to express their opinions clearly. As part of our text study, we explored Brindabella, where students thought deeply about the story and its key messages. They used evidence from the text to support their ideas and wrote responses that connected to themes such as friendship, trust, belonging, courage, fear and kindness.
We have continued our daily Phonics Plus lessons throughout the term. These sessions focus on strengthening students’ decoding, spelling and word knowledge skills and helping them become more confident readers and writers. Students have been practising recognising letter patterns, breaking down unfamiliar words and applying strategies to help them spell more accurately. It has been wonderful to see many students beginning to use these strategies independently during their reading and writing tasks in the classroom.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, students have been developing their understanding of addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers using additive strategies. We have also been working through worded problems, encouraging students to identify the important information and apply additive strategies to find solutions. Students have recently begun learning vertical addition and subtraction as another method to support their mathematical thinking.
Wellbeing
Students completed a “Getting to Know Me” activity for their classroom teacher. This gave them the opportunity to share their strengths, hobbies and interests, as well as reflect on what helps them learn best. Students also thought about what helps them when they experience big feelings and what they would like their teacher to know about them. This activity helped us build stronger connections in the classroom and better understand how to support each learner.
NAPLAN Time!
The Year 3 students have approached the NAPLAN tests with an open mind and a positive attitude. We are incredibly proud of the effort they have shown. The students not only enjoyed the process but also found it to be a highly educational experience, gaining valuable insights along the way. We're excited to see how all their hard work will pay off!
Term 1 Wrap-Up
It’s hard to believe how quickly Term 1 has flown by! Our Grade 3 students have settled into routines, made new friends, and engaged enthusiastically with their learning. They have worked hard across all areas and should be very proud of the effort they’ve shown. With the Easter break ahead, it’s a perfect time to relax, enjoy family and friends and recharge for the term ahead. We hope all our Grade 3 families have a wonderful two-week holiday and come back ready for another term of learning, growth, and exciting experiences.
