PE Term Overview
Preps
This term in Physical Education, the Prep students have been introduced to the world of PMP (Perceptual Motor Program), which enables every student to engage in a range of activities that help us understand their level of development while providing opportunities to support and extend their learning through movement.
PMP is a fun and active program designed to help students develop important skills such as balance, coordination, body control, and spatial awareness. Through a variety of stations—like balancing, hopping, climbing, and obstacle courses—students practise their movement and memory skills in an engaging and supportive environment.
The program also allows teachers to observe how students move and interact with different challenges, helping us support each child as they continue to build confidence and develop their fundamental movement skills.
Years 1–2
This term in Physical Education, students have been developing their fundamental movement skills while also learning how to participate positively in games and group activities. A key focus has been on underarm throwing, where students practised the correct grip, stepping forward with the opposite foot, and aiming towards a target.
Through a variety of fun games and partner activities, students also explored rolling and controlling a ball, playing bocce, partner activities and knocking down blocks.
Students have been introduced to whistle rules in PE, learning to listen carefully and respond quickly to signals such as stop, freeze, and listen. These routines help create a safe and organised environment so that everyone can participate successfully in activities.
Years 3-4
This term in Physical Education, students in Years 3–4 have been focusing on striking and fielding games, with a particular emphasis on activities related to lacrosse. Through a variety of skill-building drills and modified games, students developed their understanding of how to strike, pass, and control equipment safely and effectively.
Students practised striking skills, including using controlled stick movements in lacrosse, how to pass/throw with the stick and how to shoot under pressure. Lessons focused on correct body positioning, hand–eye coordination and following through when striking or passing. Students also explored catching, scooping and throwing, helping them understand how to work together to defend and return the ball during gameplay.
Years 5-6
This term in Physical Education, students in Years 5–6 focused on developing teamwork and advanced ball skills through activities related to cricket. Lessons were designed to help students build confidence with bat-and-ball skills while also learning how effective communication and cooperation contribute to successful team play.
Students practised a range of cricket-specific skills, including batting, bowling, catching, and fielding. Skill drills allowed students to work on correct batting stance, striking the ball with control, and aiming for space.
They also explored bowling techniques, focusing on accuracy and consistency, as well as improving their catching and throwing when fielding.
