Unit Of Inquiry
Transdisciplinary theme:
Where we are in place and time
Central idea: Present day cultures are influenced by cultures of the past

The changing face of Australian society throughout the 20th Century

The contribution of individuals and groups to the development of Australian society
This term, Year 6 students are exploring the transdisciplinary theme Where we are in place and time. Through this inquiry, students are developing an understanding of how communities, environments, and people change over time, and recognising their own place within history.
Students will independently research defining moments in Australia's history, developing research and critical thinking skills. As part of this inquiry, students will visit the Shrine of Remembrance to immerse themselves in the history of World War 1.
This excursion will bring their learning to life, allowing them to experience the stories, artefacts, and spaces that shaped our nation.
Through this experience, students will make meaningful connections between our past and their own lives, exploring how historical events have influenced their families, their community, and Australia today.
Literacy
We’ve been working on tense and the students have been using present tense verbs. We’ve also been practicing embedded clauses, which, who and that and using these to give more information in our sentences.
We’re currently writing reflections for camp that we’ll be able to share next week and in grammar we’ll be moving onto using clauses, conjunctions and appositives to combine 3-4 sentences into complex sentences.
We paused our text study, Skellig but will be revisiting it next week.
Here is a quick recount on cancelled sport.
Mathematics Focus
The Year 6 students have finalized their exploration of integers. We will explore the number system extending infinitely below zero and develop strategies for counting and locating integers on a number line. Students will practice methods for accurately bridging zero while identifying both positive and negative integers on the number line.
Moving forward, the students will build on their understanding of integers by comparing the size of positive and negative integers. They will revise their understanding of the symbols greater than (>) and less than (<) to state whether given integers are more or less than others.
