Amazing 5/6

Term 1 - Week 4

A message from the teachers

Week 4 already and it feels like this term is flying past! Everyone has done a great job of settling into the routine and working through the expectations that have been an important part of our first few weeks. Homework has started, assessments have begun and NAPLAN is only 2 weeks away for our Year 5’s. We are in the middle of swimming, Interschool sport has had a successful start, with many students playing their sports for the first time, and the ⅚’s have also begun preparing for their mini concert at the end of the term.

We want to congratulate our Year 6 captains, who all received their badges at assembly last week. From the proud smiles on their faces, and on the faces of their parents in the crowd, it was a really important moment for our leaders. They have really stepped up so far this year, volunteering, helping their younger peers and being the role models we expect them to be. Keep it up!

Academically, we are focusing on persuasive writing in literacy at the moment, particularly writing a persuasive letter to a person of prominence about an important issue. It is a very structured and specific text type that is forcing our young writers to think laterally and research and develop their own opinions about a range of topics. In Maths this year, we have separated the classes into Year 5’s and Year 6’s to focus on the specific needs of each cohort. After a couple of bumps, the kids have settled into the process and we will see how they all go in the coming weeks. If you would like any further clarification on the process or structure of our curriculum content, please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher or Nick Duckett
