Wonderful 1

The 0ne-der Stars 1s
Term 1 Week 4 2024 - Friday 21st February
What have we been up to?
Over the past two weeks, the Year 1 students have embraced their learning with enthusiasm, tackling challenges with a positive attitude and a smile.
The Year 1 teaching team continues to establish consistent routines and structures, and to their credit, the students have adapted well, taking everything in stride. It has been wonderful to see their progress and resilience.
Since creating our Classroom W.I.G.s and Mission Statements, students have been working diligently to achieve their goals while following the expectations and guidelines they helped establish.
In Weeks 3 and 4, students have been revisiting phonics, focusing on the ch, th, ng, and wh sound codes, as well as VC/CVC (vowel-consonant/consonant-vowel-consonant) word structures. They have been practicing spelling, writing, and reading these codes, while also refining their whiteboard routines—becoming experts in parking, hovering, chinning, and wiping their boards throughout lessons.
During Literacy, students have explored writing conventions and the use of conjunctions in their sentences. They have shown great enthusiasm for the Write2Learn program, which has been fantastic to see. Additionally, they have enjoyed their author study on Nick Bland, particularly analysing characters, settings, complications, and solutions in The Cranky Bear series.
Students have also shown wonderful engagement in their Specialist classes, including Visual and Performing Arts (Music), AUSLAN, PE, and Culture, actively participating in a variety of enriching activities over the fortnight.
It has also been wonderful to see so many students embracing their take-home readers! Please remember to record nightly reading and ensure students bring their diaries and blue pouches back to school on Mondays to swap their readers.
If you're looking for additional books to read alongside the take-home readers, some great options include Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Twits, and Esio Trot by Roald Dahl, as well as the Aussie Bites and Aussie Nibbles series, Little Lunch series, Zac Power series, and Geronimo Stilton series. These books are engaging and perfect for developing young readers!
Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!
