Term 1 Week 4- 21st February 2024
We cannot believe it is the end of week 4! Time has certainly flown. The Preps are settling in very well and learning the routines and expectations of being in Primary School. We have been learning habit 6, synergise and how working together makes things faster and more fun. The Preps are enjoying synergising with each other.
Learning has well and truly started. Our morning routine is working well and Prep are beginning to know what to do and when to get ready for their day. I am very impressed with how the Preps have all taken to this routine and shown resilience and bravery each morning when coming into the classroom. We are having regular discussions with the Preps about playing outside at recess and lunch times and who they can go to if they need help - yard duty teachers outside who are wearing the orange or yellow vests.
Week 1 of swimming has been fantastic for the Preps.
In the words of Ava A, “Swimming was amazing”
I hope all have enjoyed themselves. They have all been independent and excited each day for the program.
Thankyou to the parent helpers, it has been much appreciated.
We look forward to the final week of swimming on Monday/Tuesday and Thursday.
What we are learning!
Maths:
We are continuing our maths with numbers to five and then to ten. Exploring numerals, collections and words. The Preps are enjoying drawing and sorting different collections of numbers. As the weeks progress we will be working with higher numbers. Once I have assessed all students in their 1:1 maths assessment I will be able to extend and provide support to those that require it.
Literacy:
Literacy begins every morning at 9.10am. The students are enjoying their daily phonics sessions and are managing well with new sounds. We have been focussing on the sounds of a c f, i, m, s & t. Students are beginning to sound out two and three letter words (VC Vowel Consonant or CVC Consonant Vowel consonant) and are attempting to write them on their whiteboards.
We are continuing with our novel study on the author Julia Donaldson. We have read the Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child & Room on the Broom. Students then discuss the various characters, setting, problems and solutions within the texts.
In writing we are exploring the importance of full sentences and not leaving out any words in our writing or verbal communication. Preps have enjoyed making silly sentences by leaving out a word. However, also understand the importance of communicating with a full sentence when writing or speaking.
Leader In me:
We are continually using the language of the 7 habits in the classroom. Students are learning to make proactive choices throughout their days. In weekly synergise sessions Preps are enjoying playing together in the classroom.
Inquiry:
This term our Inquiry subject is Personal and Social Capabilities. We will learn about our emotions and how we can be the best version of ourselves, hence; Sharpening the Saw (habit 7). This week, we have learnt about having a growth mindset, and the power of yet. At home, you can talk about how you may not be able to do something yet, but with time, practise and positive thinking, you will be able to do anything you set your mind to.

Please note during the swimming program no specialist classes are run
