Visual Arts
Last week in Visual Arts, students explored the art elements of line, shape, and colour through the skill of drawing. Foundation students began by using whiteboards to follow teacher-directed instructions, creating various pictures before transferring their knowledge to draw a portrait of themselves. Year 1/2 students also worked on self-portraits, then experimented with a creative technique called βMy Shadow.β They cut out their portraits, placed it under a sheet of paper, and used coloured crayons to create a shadow effect through rubbing over their cut-out. Year 3/4 and 5/6 students also focused on self-portrait drawing, with Year 5/6 students further developing their skills by following step-by-step instructions on using guidelines and proportions to create a more detailed and structured portrait of themselves.

School Wide Swimming Program
This week all students started participating in an intensive swimming skills and water safety program at Waves Leisure Centre.
The majority of students participated and along with learning great skills, it was a fantastic social event for all students. Initially all students were assessed on their current swimming ability and from there they were put into appropriate groups to further develop their skills. The first week finished with a water safety day, where students go in the water with extra clothing and learn to swim for safety and develop their understanding of being safe around water. The sessions continue next week for another 4 sessions.
It has been a great start to the program and everyone has had a great time. I want to thank all of our staff for their support and energy with the students, and for all the parent help and support.Β
Interschool Sports
This term students in grade 5 and 6, and with some assistance from some of our Grade 4 girls will be participating in weekly interschool sports against local schools.
We have now had two rounds completed, with games against Cheltenham East PS and Southmoor.
We have both mixed and girls teams in Teeball, Volleyball and tennis and have one mixed cricket team.
All students are thoroughly enjoying the competitions and the social connection that interschool sports brings through team sports.
We have had a few wins across all teams and it is exciting to see everyone out and trying their best.
The competition continues all term with a lightning premiership to conclude the event at the end of the term.

Auslan
In the past two weeks our classes have been learning about various topics and their relevant hand signs.Β
Our Foundation class have been introduced to the Auslan alphabet. Each week we will go over the alphabet so that it becomes familiar to the students. I have attached some photos so the students might practice this at home.Β
Grade one classes were learning about breakfast foods and our 3/4s and 5/6s are learning about different countries. We will also continue to practice our school song using Auslan.Β
