Fantastic 3/4

Term 1 Week 5 2025

What have we been up to?

What a fabulous start to the year the 3/4 cohort has had already! We are now settling in, as we are continuing to get to know one another, and understand the new routines and surprises of 3/4!

The students have been working hard on our school wide classroom routine goals. We are focusing on walking from place to place in love straight lines, and our whiteboard routines while in the classroom. We are using the language ‘hover it’, we hover our board to show our teacher that we have answered the question, ‘chin it’, we chin our board to show the teacher our answer, ‘tick it or fix it’, we give ourselves a tick or fix our work if we make a mistake (but we love making mistakes, because that is how we learn!), and then we wipe it when we are finished!

We are continuing to track our WIGs and the students are taking great pride in their classroom leadership roles. Opportunities for other school wide goals have also been announced throughout the last two weeks.

In Literacy, we are continuing to read the novel ‘Matilda’. We are now beginning to write and explore narratives. We understand that every narrative has an introduction with the characters and setting, an action, a problem, a resolution and a conclusion. The students are deep diving into each section, to ensure they write the best narrative they can! We are loving the new phonics routine each morning. The students are given a great chance to learn and understand spelling rules that we use in our everyday writing!

In Mathematics, the students continue to learn place value and rounding numbers to the nearest thousand or hundred. We are working together to understand these brand new concepts.

Homework will continue to be sent out each Monday. Students will receive a maths and spelling sheet to complete and return by the following Monday. Additionally, we encourage students to read for at least 20 minutes each night with a book of their choice.
