Book Week and the Book Character Parade

It’s our favourite month of the year in the Library when we get to celebrate Book Week and all things books! Our primary students have continued to listen to, and form opinions about the best children's books for 2026 as voted by the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA). This is in preparation for our annual voting on the best books of the year, where students get to decide their favourite stories before the official judging happens.

There has also been a lot of excited discussion about the Book Week dress up parade. We love hearing all the chatter about which book character the students are going to come as, and can’t wait to see the students on the 28th August for our parade. All parents are welcome in the Brigidine Centre at 9.00am for what is always a joyful and exciting morning for our students and staff. Costumes don’t need to be elaborate and there are many easy- to-do ideas online if you are stuck.

Library Lessons

This week we looked at a beautiful book called Dawn by Marc Martin. The amazing water colour illustrations are accompanied by just a word or a few words to take us to that magic time of the day – dawn. Students did their own water colour paintings to recreate the colours of dawn.

Next week students will be voting on which of the six shortlisted books they think should be the Children's Book of the Year winner before the CBCA judges announce the official winners on Friday 21st August. Students will get a musical note sticker to add to our voting wall.
