VET Taster Day

What a fantastic day exploring future pathways!

Our Years 9 and 10 students had an incredible opportunity to visit all three VET Alliance schools, where they explored the wide range of VET courses on offer and gained valuable insight into future career pathways.

Students toured the training facilities, met VET trainers and watched current students in action, developing their practical skills in real-world learning environments. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that helped students better understand course requirements and the exciting opportunities available through the VET program.

A big thank you to our VET Alliance partners - St Mary's of the Angel's Nathalia and Nathalia Secondary College - for providing such an engaging and informative day. We look forward to seeing many of our students take the next step in their VET journey!

Allied Health Day

Our students recently had a fantastic day participating in the Allied Health and Nursing Immersion, gaining firsthand experience of what it's like to work in the healthcare industry.

Throughout the sessions, students explored a range of Nursing and Allied Health career pathways and had the opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals. It was an invaluable experience that highlighted the skills, qualifications and personal attributes needed for a career in healthcare, while showcasing the many rewarding opportunities available right here in our local community.

A huge thank you to Kyabram District Health and CCLLEN for providing such an engaging and inspiring experience for our students. Your support and commitment to helping our young people explore future career pathways is greatly appreciated!

About Your Time at St Augustine's

What years did you attend St Augustine's College?

2019-2024 – Prior to attending St Augustine’s, Imogen attended primary school at Sacred Heart in Tatura.

What are your favourite memories from your time at the College?

Being able to participate in the Creative Art subjects that were offered from Year 7 right through to Year 12.

Who was a teacher or staff member who made a lasting impact on you and why?

Mrs Downie, for her care, encouragement and help through the tough times.

Ms Cook, my English teacher, always made the subject enjoyable and she had a wealth of knowledge and expertise in this area.

What is one lesson you learned at St Augustine's that has stayed with you?

Perseverance, determination and resilience.

Life After School

What pathway did you take after leaving St Augustine's?

Imogen took a Gap Year in 2025. She worked two jobs during this time which helped her save for the move to Melbourne.

What are you doing now and what do you enjoy most about your career or studies?

Imogen is currently undertaking the Diploma in Graphic Design at Swinburne University in Hawthorn, Melbourne. She is living on campus in shared accommodation.

Imogen enjoys all aspects of the program, especially the coursework relating to the different aspects of design and learning how her creative skills may be used in industry. This year Imogen has undertaken subjects that have taught her about website design, packaging design, branding and brand identity, photography, animation and visual effects and professional illustration. Imogen was able to use some of the work she created in her Year 12 subjects as part of her folio when applying for her course.

Did you always know this was the career you wanted or has your journey changed along the way?

Imogen always had a keen desire to pursue a career in Creative Arts. The course she is undertaking has certainly helped her explore the different aspects of Creative Industries and provided her with different options to consider.

What has been your proudest achievement since starting work/studying/graduating?

While only in the first year and trimester of her course, Imogen landed her first job opportunity with the Mildura Writers Festival.  She was the successful candidate for this opportunity and chosen to produce the poster and program for the Mildura Writers festival. For this project she was commissioned to create the advertising material for the event.

Imogen is also proud of the fact that she can now manage all of the ‘Adobe’ products used in creative design and has mastered the program. Imogen stated that ‘it was really rewarding to sit with professionals and master the skills that will help me in my course and career’.

Another proud moment was when Imogen had the opportunity to create the front cover of the St Augustine's College Magazine, Tarkarri, in 2023, when she was in Year 11 - "Seeing it in print was pretty special."

Reflection and Advice

How did your education at St Augustine's prepare you for life beyond school?

Upon reflection, Imogen stated that the Career Expos that she attended in Years 11 and 12 were valuable experiences which afforded her the opportunity to talk directly to the Universities offering Creative Design courses and find out firsthand what the courses on offer entailed. Imogen was able to make informed decisions about which University would best suit her needs and learning style.

What skills developed at school do you use most in your career today?

Setting up a study timetable to help prioritise tasks in Year 12 was really helpful. Imogen still uses this to help her best manage her time and the demands of her University Course.

What advice would you give current students who are considering their future career or study options?

"Do something that you are passionate about and that you enjoy."

If you could give your Year 12 self one piece of advice, what would it be?

"You may not like the gap year – working fulltime - but it will help develop your independence and set you up for moving away from home to study."

Looking Ahead

What are your goals for the future?

After completing her Diploma, Imogen is hoping to pathway into the Advanced Diploma and Bachelor of Design Communication at Swinburne University. After graduating, she will investigate options for studio work or freelancing opportunities.

Is there a project, achievement or exciting opportunity you're currently working on?

There are many projects that Imogen has on the go. She is currently creating labels for wine bottles, a brochure that highlights key sites of a city and a branding portfolio for a company.

We wish Imogen well with the rest of her studies and can’t wait to see all the great things she achieves in the future.
