Grade 3

Literacy Block

Over the past fortnight, students have continued to explore their unit on Ancient Rome. Recent lessons have focused on key questions such as the differences between patricians and plebeians and the bold tactics Hannibal used during the Second Punic War.

In the coming weeks, students will learn about significant figures like Cleopatra and Caesar Augustus, as well as examine Roman roads, landmarks, and aqueducts. The unit will conclude with a study of the decline of the Roman Empire and its division into the Eastern and Western Roman Empires.

Build Rome in a Day

Next Wednesday March the 2nd, students will walk to River Park to celebrate the end of our reading unit on Ancient Rome, we are heading to the Barwon Heads river to ‘Build Rome in a Day.’

Students will be designing and building sandcastles based on their learnings from the unit. We will leave school at 11:30 and return at approximately 1:45pm. Students will need to bring their hats, snacks and drink bottles. A personal container of sun screen is also highly recommended.

We will be looking for some amazing volunteers to help us on the day, at least 3 per class. Please note that all volunteers must sign in at reception and show their Working With Children’s Check (WWCC). If you are able to assist, please contact your child’s teacher.

Please note, this event will be in place of in class celebration of learning sessions. Parents are welcome to attend and assist their child on the day!

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have moved on from addition and subtraction and begun their unit on Time. They will focus on concepts such as formal units of time and estimating the duration of events using these units.

NAPLAN

Last week all students completed NAPLAN assessments for reading, writing, numeracy and conventions of language. All the students did a fantastic job with these assessments! Results will be released later this year.
