Grade 2

Explore the Learning in Grade 2

Literacy

In Literacy, students will conclude their Core Knowledge unit, 'Ancient China'. As part of this, the students will learn about the Chinese New Year and how the Chinese use silk and summarise how silk was made as a writing task. In Syntax and Grammar lessons, students will look at expanding sentences with adjectives.

Phonics, Handwriting and Reading Fluency

The students are currently working on learning to read and write c/c/v/c/c words (c - consonant, v- vowel). Examples of these words include print, stink and swift.

The students will continue to use a range of strategies in order to build their reading fluency. This includes 'echo reading,' where the teacher reads one sentence, then the students echo it back. The class will read through three times, with feedback between each read, with a focus on expression. The handwriting focus is on the correct letter formation and sizing for 'k', 'h', and 'j.'

Numeracy

The students will be working on consolidating their knowledge of counting equal groups and ordering three-digit numbers. They will be learning about the subtraction algorithm, with regrouping.

Excursion

The Grade 2 students had a fantastic time on their excursion to the beach, where they explored emotions in different contexts.
