Grade 4

Literacy Block

In recent weeks, the Grade 4 students have transitioned from studying Early and Medieval Islamic Kingdoms to exploring Early and Medieval African Kingdoms. They have begun examining Africa's unique geography, history, and culture, with a particular focus on how the continent’s geography influenced the development of early African kingdoms and empires. Additionally, they will be investigating the role of trade in shaping the Kush and Aksum Kingdoms.

Alongside this, students continue to develop their reading fluency, handwriting, and spelling during the literacy block.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been working on a unit on Time. This week, key concepts included determining the start time when given the finish time and elapsed time to the hour, as well as learning to calculate elapsed time in five-minute intervals.

Following this unit, students will begin working on multiplication and division, focusing on multiplication facts and strategies such as doubling and halving.

Camp

The Grade 4 camp at Camp Wilkin was a resounding success! Students returned with plenty of fantastic stories, from daring leaps of faith to late-night slumber parties.

A huge thank you to all the parents who supported their children, as well as to Mr Bennetts, Ms Curtain and Mr Haslam for joining us on this adventure!

National eSmart Week

As part of National eSmart Week, the Grade 4 students will be completing their eSmart Digital Licence. Over four lessons, they will explore digital safety using the 4Cs framework: Compulsion, Conduct, Content, and Contact. This learning will provide valuable discussion opportunities for families at home.
