Grade 5

Literacy

We are continuing to investigate Maya, Aztec and Inca Civilisations. Over the next fortnight, students will unpack the Aztec empire builders and the City of Wonder. Our writing focus for the fortnight will be to continue developing our skills in writing single-body paragraphs for informative texts. During syntax and grammar lessons, students will revise the concepts taught throughout this term, including upgrading nouns, completing a sentence summary of a passage, and using dialogue conventions.

Numeracy

Over the next fortnight, students will be developing their knowledge of multiplication. Through these lessons, they will learn a range of strategies to assist them in problem-solving:

  • Using factors to solve multiplication problems
  • Partitioning larger numbers
  • Using the associative properties of numbers to solve problems

Inquiry

Students are continuing to work towards finishing their project for our 'Going Global' unit. They are creating a digital platform to display their understandings of another country and the unique features of their chosen location.
