Our Athletics Superstars Conquer Melbourne
On Friday 16th October, a mighty squad of four elite BSC athletes made the journey to Melbourne to test themselves against the absolute best at the State Track & Field Championships. Just qualifying for this elite level is a massive achievement, but our students didn’t just show up—they absolutely blew the competition away!
Here are the jaw-dropping results from the big day:
Dee – State Champion
Dee put on an absolute masterclass in the throwing circles, claiming 1st place in Shot Put to become a State Champion, and backing it up with a phenomenal 2nd place in Discus.
Hugh – The Ultimate Distance Machine
Hugh ran his heart out in two gruelling distance events. He captured a brilliant 3rd place in the 800m, and followed it up with an agonisingly close 4th place in the 1500m—missed out on another podium finish by a mind-boggling 0.02 seconds!
Lenny – Flying High
Lenny stepped up to the runway for the Triple Jump, soaring through the air against fierce, top-tier competition to secure an incredible 7th place in the state.
Hayden – Watch This Space
Hayden also competed at this elite level, and finished 4th in 800m and 7th in triple jump
Whether they brought home medals or personal bests, competing at a state level is a phenomenal milestone. Huge congratulations to Dee, Hugh, Lenny, and Hayden for representing our school with such pride and power!
Gippsland Hockey – 20th October
Grit, Guts, and Unstoppable Heart: Our Hockey Heroes Take on Sale
Heading to Sale to battle Chairo Drouin is always a tough ask. Throw in scorching weather and just a single sub on the bench, and you have the recipe for a true epic.
Our squad—a fantastic mix of seasoned hockey pros and brave new recruits—showed exactly what our kids are made of. They stepped onto the pitch with massive hearts, ultimate determination, and an absolute refusal to back down.
While finding the back of the net proved tricky against Chairo’s rock-solid defence, our own backline was just as gritty. They put on a defensive masterclass of their own, holding off relentless pressure to limit the opposition to just a single goal in each half.
The scoreboard only tells half the story. The real winners were the outstanding sportsmanship, incredible teamwork, and thrilling glimpses of the skill this team possesses. The future of our hockey program is looking incredibly bright!
Gippsland Table Tennis – 27th October
Ping Pong Power! BSC Smashes It at Regionals
Our Year 7, 8, and Intermediate table tennis titans packed their paddles and headed to Traralgon to take on the region's absolute best. Backed by weeks of rigorous training—including student-led lunchtime showdowns—each team faced a gruelling three-match marathon.
Here is how the action unfolded:
Intermediate Team: State Bound!
Our Intermediates made the competition look easy. Putting their hard-earned skills on full display, they breezed through their matches to be crowned Regional Champions. Next stop: State Finals in Melbourne! An absolutely awesome achievement.
Year 8 Team: The Ultimate Grinders
With a few last-minute recruits stepping up to complete the squad, this fresh-faced team played with pure determination. They uncovered hidden talents, smashed winners they didn't know they had in them, and walked away incredibly proud. The competition was fierce, but the team is already plotting their comeback and demanding more training for next year!
Year 7 Team: A Heart-Stopping Finale
Talk about a thriller! After dominating their first two matches, our Year 7 players faced a winner-takes-all grand finale against their fellow undefeated rivals. It all came down to the final doubles matches. In a wild twist, the opposition had to leave early, forfeiting the last two games to BSC. With the overall match tied at 3 rubbers each, the calculators came out. BSC racked up an impressive 12 games, but Chairo just edged us out with 13 games. Missed out on State by a single, solitary game!
The students ended the day on a high being complimented by other schools for their attitudes on the day, and how great they conducted themselves. Huge congratulations to all of our players for an incredible display of skill, heart, and sportsmanship.
Gippsland Cricket – 27th October
Bowlers’ Day Out: Year 7 Cricket Titans Battle It Out in Sale
Fresh from being crowned East Gippsland Champions, our unstoppable Year 7 boys made the trek to Sale, with their eyes firmly locked on a prized spot in the State Finals.
Facing a lethal, highly seasoned bowling attack from Catholic College Sale, runs were worth their weight in gold. Boundaries were tough to find, but our boys dug deep and fought for every single. With a top individual score of 9, the entire lineup chipped in, battling hard to scratch together a defendable total of 46 runs at the end of their overs.
Then came the defence—and what a show it was! It was a certified bowlers' day, and our boys made Sale sweat for every single run.
We started with an absolute dream opening, ripping through Sale’s top order to send their top two batters back to the pavilion for ducks! Hope flared again when our fiery attack snatched another two quick wickets, dismissing their fourth and fifth batters.
Suddenly, Sale was on the ropes. Realising they were in a real dogfight, they had to nervously lock down their wickets against our relentless bowling. In the end, Sale managed to creep past our total in the 14th over, but our boys never gave up the fight. Special shout-outs go to Angus and Howard, who both put on a bowling masterclass to claim two wickets each!
An incredible effort from our regional champs—you did the school incredibly proud!
