Buddies

Hi HPS! We hope you’ve had a great term so far. For this newsletter the School Captains want to tell you about our Prep Buddies. 

In week 5, Term 1, we met our Buddies, and we spent time with them every fortnight, doing different activities and eating lunch together. When we first met, we made an All About Me and my Buddy poster, where we drew our favorite food, color, etc. We have had game sessions just chilling and playing games with each other. We have learnt about being resilient and made Resilience Rainbows. Last session we embraced our cultures and made a poster together by drawing pictures and sticking it on colored paper. Everyone in Prep and Year 6 are enjoying our time with each other a lot. We are really excited for the next time we spend with our Buddies.

Today I want to tell you about our Buddies in Prep and what activities we’ve been doing with them. In Week 5 Term 1, we met our Buddies and since then we have done so many activities and we both got to know each other well! We played a few board games with each other, made a cultural poster and celebrated all of our very unique backgrounds and ethnicities. After every activity, we have lunch together and talk about the things going on in our life. I’m so excited to meet my Buddy next time!

A few weeks ago, all the Grade 6s of Highvale got their Prep Buddies. I saw overjoyed faces from the preps as they met their Buddy for the first time, while most of the Grade 6s were very nervous. We then did a work sheet about us and our Buddies, e.g. favorite colours, and things to do. Now, we meet our Buddies every fortnight and do fun and exciting activities together.

At the end of Term one the Year 6’s got our Prep Buddies. In that first session we were all nervous to meet our Buddies but we lost all of that anxiety when we spent a little time with them. When we meet our Prep Buddies, we do something fun like crafts that lets us learn something new about each other. Like last week we did a cultural activity, and we got to learn where our Buddies come from. We meet them every fortnight.
