National Reconciliation Week 2025

What is National Reconciliation Week?
- A time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements
- It’s held every year from 27 May to 3 June
- It encourages all of us to explore how we can contribute to reconciliation in Australia
Why is it important to celebrate National Reconciliation Week?
- Promotes respect and understanding between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians
- Helps to acknowledge past injustices and work towards a fairer future
- Builds stronger communities and inclusive classrooms
How did HPS acknowledge National Reconciliation Week?
- Presentation at assembly and posters around the school
- Watching a Play School or BTN episode about Reconciliation
- Listened to the story ‘Say Yes’.
- Class discussions
- Decorated acknowledgement leaves or hands
- Displayed their creations on classroom windows.
What do HPS students think? Why is National Reconciliation Week important to acknowledge?
- We acknowledge we did something bad to Aboriginal people and we need to try and make up for it. Isabella, Year 4.
