Respectful Relationships

This term at Highvale Primary School, students from Prep- Year 6 have been continuing to engage in the Respectful Relationships program, participating in a range of activities focused on Personal and Cultural Strengths and Positive Coping. Across the school, students have explored what makes them unique, recognised and celebrated the diverse backgrounds within our community, and developed practical strategies for managing emotions and building resilience. These learning experiences have helped foster empathy, strengthen relationships, and promote a positive, inclusive school culture. Below is some student voice about the activities that classes have enjoyed and what they have have learnt.
Prep:
Prep have been learning about emotions.
Anaaya: I can be cheerful
Arjan: I am kind
Year 1:
Kiaan: My favourite part about Respectful relationship is it teaches me how to be inclusive. For example, when somebody is lonely, you can ask them if you want to be friends with you.
Dhaani: In Respectful relationship we learned about how to work together nicely and that help us to have a better and stronger relationship.
Year 2:
Hayley: We were learning about emotions. I learned that focus and calm are good for learning and active emotions made it harder for me to learn.
Cooper: We have been learning about feelings like our learning feelings. Two feelings I learnt about are active and calm. When I am learning I like to feel active. I like to feel calm when I am on my iPad.
Year 3:
Olivia– We are learning about being respectful. We did a ‘Respect Advisors’ activity, where we had to work as a team to talk about how to be respectful in different scenarios.
Anekha– There is something called the Circle of Respect. Respect can LOOK, FEEL and SOUND like something.
Year 4:
Arshia: It’s how we can learn each other’s feelings by looking at them and understand how they are feeling.
Shanaya: We can help other people and ask them to join us when we are playing a game.
Year 5:
Olivia: I learned about being respectful and being calm
Violet: I’ve been learning about emotions and positive and negative self-talk
Year 6:
Emma: It has been cool to see how everyone is different in their own way with different strengths
Ben: I enjoyed working with people on the character strengths role play. It was fun!
