Japanese

Japanese students in Years 8 - 11 have been busy soaking up lots of new language and putting it into practice in their various settings.

Year 8 have been introduced to the whole Hiragana script this term, and although it is a lot to remember, they have undertaken their learning enthusiastically. This, combined with self-introductions and some facts about sumo, has seen them begin their journey in Japanese.

Year 9 have been learning about family and pets, while Year 10 have focused on Japanese housing, rooms and contents, along with prepositions of place. A highlight for these students was an online exchange with a school in Japan, where both schools’ students engaged in sharing their culture. Year 10 are now finishing the term by creating their own tiny Japanese homes.

The Senior Japanese course has moved quickly, with students learning many new Kanji characters and a huge volume of new vocabulary. It’s fabulous to see them using their newfound skills both inside and outside the classroom.
