Music

YEAR 7

Students have begun their Music learning with a focus on Keyboard skills. Students have learnt to perform Popular riffs and arrangements of Pop melodies, while sequentially building on their understanding of basic rhythms and treble clef notes. 

 

YEAR 8

The Blues and its features in Rock riffs has been a focus for Year 8 during the term. Students performed, composed and analysed Blues and Rock repertoire which culminated in a performance of riffs in a medley. Students developed their solo performance skills on keyboard and guitar. 

 

YEAR 9 

Students have immersed in developing their Performance skills through performance, composition and listening activities based on Jazz and Popular music repertoire. Students performed as an ensemble at Open Night and worked on developing their solo performance skills on their instruments leading to their Performance Assessment Task. Students performed pieces in a variety of styles including Musical Theatre, Pop/Rock and 20th and 21st Century Art Music. 

 

YEAR 11 

Students have completed their first Topic: Music for Small Ensembles with a focus on Rock Power Ballads and the treatment of the concepts of music in creating this genre. Students performed and analysed various Pop/Rock arrangements demonstrative of the Rock style and were then set the task of arranging a Pop song lead sheet in the style of a Rock ensemble power ballad. Students have begun honing their Aural skills throughout Term 1 and most of the Music 1 class will be featured in the upcoming school musical, Popstars.
