Book Week 2026
The Resource Centre has been buzzing this week as we celebrate 2026 CBCA Book Week and this year’s theme, A Symphony of Stories.

Book Week is a chance to recognise the richness of Australian children’s literature and to celebrate the authors and illustrators who create stories that spark imagination, curiosity and connection. Each year, the Children’s Book Council of Australia highlights outstanding new Australian books and encourages young people to discover stories they may not have picked up before.

To celebrate at KCC, we have transformed the Resource Centre into a space where students can read, explore and join in a range of Book Week activities throughout Weeks 6 and 7.
Year 7 and 8 English classes are visiting during their library lessons to take part in a variety of interactive challenges, including KCC Band of Readers, where students match staff members with their favourite books, and Guess the Book in the Jar, a mystery book challenge using a series of clues. Students can also test their luck in our Guess the Number of KCC Bookworms competition, with a gold coin donation supporting Caritas. These challenges are also available for all students and staff to participate in during break times.

Every Year 7 and 8 student will receive a special CBCA 2026 Book Week bookmark, and classes will be provided with activities inspired by this year’s Symphony of Stories theme using the official CBCA activity booklet.

The celebrations continue at recess and lunch in the Resource Centre, starting with a giant Where’s Wally? daily challenge, only instead of Wally, students will be hunting for Mrs Scutti! Along with the daily hunt or Book Week challenges, students can enjoy Book Week colouring, literary word searches and a playlist of memorable book-to-film soundtracks creating a relaxed atmosphere in the Resource Centre.

We look forward to continuing our Book Week celebrations into next week and hope students take the opportunity to discover a new Australian story, revisit an old favourite and celebrate the many ways books enrich our lives.
Congratulations to our Year 11 students, who have officially wrapped up their end of course examinations! Meanwhile, our Year 12 cohort is making every moment count as they put the final touches on their HSC preparation. We extend our warmest best wishes to all our senior students as they head into these final milestones.
With the school break approaching, junior students are encouraged to stock up on leisure reading from our collection of fiction, non-fiction, and magazines. As always, there is no limit on the number of items each student may borrow. Happy holiday reading!

Year 12 students will receive an emailed list of items they need to return to the Resource Centre, either as they complete each individual exam or at the end of the HSC exam period. We hope this emailed list assists HSC students in locating all of their items. All items must be returned to the Resource Centre by Friday 27th November 2026. Invoices for the cost of non-returned items will be processed after this date. Please note: It is not the responsibility of Resource Centre staff to search for items left in classrooms; locating and returning resources remains the sole responsibility of students.
We wish the Year 12 Class of 2026 all the very best for their HSC Exams!
