Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

I hope that everyone was able to enjoy a Saturday sleep in last weekend now that winter sport has concluded. For a small band of Junior School athletes, Saturday brought a fresh, new challenge with the start of the Athletics season. 

The Junior School Athletics Squad headed to Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush last Saturday for the first of four carnivals. In crisp, wet conditions, the boys jumped, threw and ran their events, always competing with pride in the Blue, Black and Gold. The carnival was very successful for our boys, with many placing in the top three in their events. Special mention to our senior relay team who made up a large stagger only to be pipped at the post, coming second by a nose. A wonderful effort. We wish the squad well for the coming carnivals:

• BPSSA Carnival – Friday 21 August

• IPSHA Boys Invitational – Saturday 22 August

• IPSHA Carnival – Wednesday 26 August

Good luck boys, we know that you will represent the College proudly and know that you have the whole community supporting you as you compete.

Around this time of year, there are a number of sports that have their representative competitions in full swing. Over the past week, Samuel U of Year 6 represented NSW in the School Sport Australia Rugby League Championships. Samuel and his team performed very well, making it through to the finals against Queensland, where they were runners up. Samuel was acknowledged by his coaches for his hard work, determination and sportsmanship. Well done Samuel!

We also wish Samuel and Coby Y of Year 6 all the best for this week’s NSWPSSA Boys Rugby Union Championships. The boys have headed northwest to Mudgee to compete. 

We wish them all the best for the competition and know that they will represent the College and themselves well. Good luck boys.

There is always something happening for the boys in the Junior School and just when you think there is time for a rest, the boys surprise you with another exciting achievement. Nicolas O of Year 5 recently competed at the NSW Taekwondo State Championships. Uncontested in his division, Nicolas made the brave choice to fight up one division. He performed very strongly and won silver. Congratulations on a magnificent performance Nicolas. Nicolas has qualified for the Australian Taekwondo National Championships in October. 

A reminder that summer sport in the Junior School recommences when boys return in Term 4. Training will start at this time with games commencing on the first Saturday back, 17 October. All boys are expected to fulfil their commitment made in Term 1.
