Book Week Parade

Parents are warmly welcome to join the parade which will be held on Monday 24 August on SPC 2 from 8:40 AM. Students are encouraged to start planning their costumes. You are reminded to be creative; there is no need to purchase a costume. Make one from items available around your house, e.g cardboard, foil, material, items of clothing etc. The day is a celebration of books and book characters; participation is the key!

Year 6 Open Classrooms – Save the date

Parents and carers are warmly invited to our Year 6 Open Classrooms in the morning on Tuesday 15 September (Week 9A) from 8:45 AM-9:30 AM. We look forward to sharing the wonderful learning that has taken place with our community. Please gather in the Powell Pavillion before being invited to your son’s classroom.

Year 5 HSIE (Term 3)

This term, students will explore how the British colonies in Australia grew and changed during the 1800s, examining the causes and consequences of expansion and the diverse experiences of people who lived through this period. Students will investigate key events such as the growth of the Sydney colony, the crossing of the Blue Mountains and the spread and division of colonies, and its impact on the land and on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Students will also explore significant individuals, including Barangaroo, Elizabeth Macquarie, and Elizabeth Macarthur and examine how migration and the gold rush shaped colonial society. 

Year 6 HSIE (Term 3)

This term, students will explore the concept of global citizenship through the lens of Australia’s diverse population. They will use graphs and infographics to describe and represent Australia’s demographics, investigate the reasons behind migration to Australia and how cultural diversity enriches Australian society. They will also learn about Australia’s global connections and the impact of the International Date Line on global communication. Additionally, students will identify and describe significant contributions made by Australians in fields such as the humanities, sciences, sports, and wellbeing, highlighting Australia’s role on the world stage. This unit coincided perfectly with the recent Census where students were able to explore the data collected from this national exercise.
