Bullying – Important Conversations to Have with your Child

We are proud to participate in the Bullying No Way: National Week of Action – 17 to 21 August 2026.

The initiative was launched at last Friday’s assemblies and consolidated in PCL lessons. During this week, students have the opportunity to participate in further discussions about ways to promote respectful relationships and include others. By working collaboratively within our community, we can collectively help reduce bullying.

Families play an important role in helping children understand bullying and know how to respond to it.

If your child tells you about things at school, or you observe something in public that involves conflict or bullying, take the opportunity to talk about what bullying is. You can learn more about what defines bullying at bullyingnoway.gov.au.

Questions you could ask:

  • What do you think bullying is?

  • Have you seen it? How did you feel?

  • Have you ever felt scared at school because of bullying?

  • As well as me, who are the other adults you would talk to when it comes to things like bullying?

  • Have you or your friends left other kids out on purpose? Do you think that was bullying? Why or why not?

  • Have you ever tried to help someone who is being bullied? What happened? What would you do if it happens again?

Remind your son that bullying is never okay and discuss how they can respond safely if they experience or witness it.

Encourage them to seek help from a trusted adult and keep seeking support if needed.

By promoting open communication, we empower children to stand up against bullying and create a safer environment where everyone can feel that they belong. If you have concerns, contact your son’s Year Coordinator, the Director of Middle or Senior School or Counselling Services. You can also visit bullyingnoway.gov.au for more information.

Pulse Surveys

Please note that the boys across the College will have the opportunity over the next two weeks to participate in the Wellbeing Pulse Survey scheduled for Term 3, focusing on questions relating to their present physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. The aim of the survey is to gather feedback on how the boys are feeling as we approach the latter part of Term 3.

The Year Coordinators, counsellors, Mr Sinadinos and I will disseminate and filter the responses provided by the boys so we can then support your son if he identifies that he is experiencing challenges in different aspects of the three dimensions.

Your son may be contacted by their Year Coordinator or counsellor prior to the end of Term 3 for an informal check-up or to offer support when he returns in Term 4; this will be based on initial feedback. Further communication with parents/carers, if required, will occur after staff have had an opportunity to process all the data.

You are encouraged to ask your son/s about their responses in the pulse survey over the upcoming weeks. We take this opportunity to thank the boys for their participation in the initiative as we continue to support their wellbeing at the College.
