Principal Message Week 2 - Term 3

Over the break, between catching up with family and friends, I ended up watching MasterChef again. Beyond the food itself, what really caught my attention was the drive of the contestants. There is something genuinely inspiring about watching everyday people push through doubt and setbacks simply because they care deeply about what they are doing.

I started thinking about how MasterChef reminds me of what we strive for at St Columba’s and through the Primary Years Programme (PYP). When you watch the contestants navigate those high-pressure challenges, you’re really watching our PYP Learner Profile attributes in action:

• Risk-takers: Stepping out of their comfort zone during a Mystery Box challenge.
• Open-minded: using new ingredients, taking on unfamiliar techniques and hearing constructive feedback from the judges.
• Reflective: learning when a recipe doesn't go to plan and treating mistakes as an opportunity for growth.

I was also thinking about my mum recently and chatting with my family about the meals she used to serve up for dinner back in the 80s while testing out lesson plans for her Home Economics classes, we certainly had some interesting meals! Those moments reminded me that food and cooking are ultimately about bringing people together.

That spirit of gathering carries a very special meaning at St Columba’s this term as our Year 4 students prepare for the Sacrament of Eucharist. Just as Jesus gathered His disciples around a table to break bread, sitting down for a family meal creates a sacred space to slow down, connect and nourish our relationships.

As we begin a new term, I encourage you to bring this spirit into your home. Step into the kitchen together, share a meal and enjoy conversations. You never know, might just discover a future MasterChef sitting at your table!

Enrolments and Leadership Pathways for 2027 and 2028

It’s been a joy to hear such positive feedback from the school tours I’ve led over the last two terms. Our community is vibrant and growing!

We already have two Prep classes set for 2027 with 40+ students enrolled, all beginning their school journey through our Come and Play sessions. We’re also welcoming a number of new students across other year levels, with interest coming not only from local families, but also interstate and internationally. It is an incredibly exciting time for our community.

Additionally, for our parents of current students in Years 2-4, we will soon be sharing details about our student leadership pathway. Keep an eye out for upcoming communications detailing these exciting plans for your child as they prepare for their journey into middle and senior school.
