NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week is an annual event in Australia celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and achievements. It honours the world's oldest continuous living cultures, recognises Indigenous resilience and civil rights activism, and promotes community learning. This week we are celebrating NAIDOC Week at St Joseph's.

We have a range of different activities that our wonderful FIRE Carrier Leaders Amelia and Oli have helped Co-design.

• Skip-a-thon- During Huff and Puff, we will have a Skip-a-thon which will be in support of Opening the Doors Foundation! Our students will be putting their skipping skills to the test while raising money for a wonderful cause that helps provide educational opportunities for children who may otherwise face barriers to learning, such as acquiring vital educational resources and making choices about their education. Students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation to support the cause! Students can donate by the 7th August by giving the gold coin to their classroom teacher to collect.

• Clay artwork- Students will be creating a clay artwork using an Indigenous stamp that they will paint and mould. We are looking forward to putting these together to display around the school.
• Seasonal Calendar- Attached below is a copy of the Wurundjeri Seasonal Calendar. At St Joseph's, we are going to create a Physical version of this calendar as we are so lucky to have many wonderful plants and animals in our backyard! Each class will research a plant or animal from the calendar and create a wooden plaque with an artwork of the plant/animal and information about them on the back, including the season. We are so excited for this project!!
