English
This term, students will begin an inquiry unit focused on Celebrations of Different Cultures. They will explore the concept of celebration and learn to identify different types of celebrations, including family, religious, and cultural events. Students will investigate cultural celebrations commonly recognised in Australia, as well as significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander celebrations, across two focused sessions. They will also examine the symbols and emblems associated with various celebrations and explore Australia’s national celebrations. A key part of the unit will include a close look at Anzac Day and how it has influenced Australian identity and culture.
In English, the start of Term 3 will focus on syntax and grammar, particularly the structure of complex sentences. Students will learn to identify and define complex sentences and understand how subordinating conjunctions are used to link ideas. They will practise completing sentence stems that begin with subordinating conjunctions in order to form well-structured complex sentences.
Mathematics
This term, students will focus on building number skills through a range of strategies. They will apply inverse operations to solve and check three-digit addition and subtraction, and use concrete materials to support their understanding of these operations. Students will also practise subtracting a constant amount from two-digit numbers and use partitioning to break numbers into parts when solving problems.
Estimation will be another key focus, with students learning to estimate quantities and check for accuracy. These skills will support their confidence, problem-solving, and number sense across mathematical tasks.
