Grade 5 

English

Students are beginning Term 3 with a Core Knowledge unit called Feudal Japan. In week 1 and 2, the students will be learning about how religion has shaped people of Japan; typhoons and earthquakes; and life and everyday arts. 

At a sentence level, we will be learning about generating complex sentences containing relative clauses; and identifying the difference between first person and thirdperson point of view, and editing to change the point of view. Grade 5s will continue to strengthen their paragraph structures. ​

Mathematics

This term, we are continuing to practice our number fluency for 4 minutes each day. This fortnight, Grade 5 students are focusing on probability. Across the unit they will be learning to:

-identify the chance of outcomes and name them as fractions. 

-conduct chance experiments and record the results.

-identify and compare fair and unfair experiments.

-design their own chance experiments. 

 

Inquiry

In light of the school's 150th yearm, this term the Grade 5 students are devling into the history of Barwon Heads. Throughout the next 2 weeks, we will be looking all the back to 1875 and making connections with what was happening at Barwon Heads, in Australia and across the world.
