Grade 1

English 

In Week 1, the Grade 1s will begin a new Core Knowledge unit, 'Changing Families.' In this unit, the students will explore questions such as: 

• What is a family, and what are some examples of different families? 
• How do family members help each other, and have these changed over time? 
• What makes a family become bigger or smaller? 

• How have family activities and traditions changed over time? 
• How has school changed over time? 

Students will learn to define pronouns and use the correct one within a sentence. They will also learn to identify and define proper nouns and common nouns. 

Mathematics 

Students will be learning to solve total problems, and explore 3D objects. Students will also learn to recognise and order Australian coins.

Inquiry

This term, we will be focusing on the history of Barwon Heads as we celebrate 150 years of Barwon Heads Primary School. In Week 1 and 2, we will be exploring the questions: 

• What is history? Why is 150 years important to BHPS?
• How has Barwon Heads changed over time?
• What did the town look like when it was first established?
