Kitchen Garden

Shannon Sargeant

Warm weather at the start of the term has seen the silverbeet and rhubarb plants thrive in the garden. We have been selling bunches of silverbeet to staff, but used the rhubarb to make jam which we first enjoyed on scones, and then used to make jam drop biscuits - a Kitchen Garden favourite. As we wait for the spring/summer produce to start, we have been focused on reducing food waste across the school by making the most of excess produce in the kitchens and Wellbeing. We have made yoghurt flatbread pizza and banana bread muffins. Our Learning Pathway for this term is food production innovations and we are looking forward to visiting Yarra Ranges Technical School to find out what is new in agricultural technology.
